YOUR SKIN is prone to eczema, AND WITH THESE TIPS, YOU CAN health support your body’s healing process.

  1. Avoid long, hot showers. I know this one is difficult! But, even though a hot shower feels great, it will cause additional dryness. Try to switch to a shorter, warm shower.

  2. Pat skin dry after showering or bathing. Don’t rub.

  3. Soak in a lukewarm water bath with oatmeal for 10 minutes. The oatmeal will help the skin absorb water.

  4. Apply moisturizer to the skin immediately after showering or bathing to seal in moisture.

  5. Avoid moisturizers with alcohol. Alcohol is extremely drying to the skin and will flare eczema patches.

  6. Avoid irritating fabrics such as wool. Instead choose loose and breathable fabrics such as cotton.

  7. Avoid scratching. Scratching eczema patches can make them worse and also increase risk of infection. Keeping the fingernails short will minimize damage to the skin if scratching does occur. Wear lightweight, cotton gloves at night to prevent scratching while sleeping.
