Eczema - Why Your Body Wash Matters

Many body washes that are available in the market contain various ingredients that can cause eczema-prone skin to flare up. These body washes are loaded with chemical foaming agents, dyes, and artificial scents. If you have eczema, it's crucial to avoid specific ingredients in your body wash.

Common irritants in body wash that are known to cause eczema flare-ups are perfumes, which are common allergens that can further irritate your sensitive skin. Sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate are ingredients that help body wash foam but can also cause skin sensitivity. Cocamidopropyl betaine is another ingredient that creates foam but frequently causes allergic reactions. Ethanol, also known as alcohol, is extremely drying and can cause eczema to flare up.

As a consumer, you should opt for natural body washes. During the process of making natural body wash, glycerin is created, which acts as a humectant and draws moisture to the skin. This makes your body wash moisturizing, which is essential to keeping eczema under control. You should also look for products that are either unscented or scented with organic essential oils.

And always follow up with a thick moisturizer such as a balm or lotion bar.
