Make a Big Impact by Shopping Small: Five Reasons to Shop Small Business Saturday

Move over Black Friday, Small Business Saturday is the new(ish) after Thanksgiving tradition! In 2010, Small Business Saturday was started and promoted by American Express. Last year Small Business Saturday attracted more than 88 million American shoppers. This important shopping day always falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year it will fall on November 25th. Venturing out on small business Saturday is practically guaranteed to be calmer and quieter than braving Black Friday! But are there other benefits of shopping small? Absolutely!!

Here are some great reasons to shop small this Saturday and every other shopping day as well:

  1. Small businesses have a major economic impact. According to the SBA, more than half of the jobs in the USA have been created by small businesses since 1990. In fact, big corporations have eliminated 4 million jobs while small businesses have added 8 million jobs. The more you shop small, the more potential jobs could be created!

  2. Small businesses truly care about their customers. Owners of small businesses are usually present and extremely hands-on. Kosmatology isn’t just a 9-5 for our owner and employees, it’s a passion! Small businesses appreciate their customers more than large retailers and will go above and beyond to ensure high quality products and happy customers.

  3. Shopping small presents an opportunity to make more meaningful purchases. Small businesses often offer products that are handmade or made in small batches. This means more control over ingredients and materials, ensuring products are safe and high quality. The entire Kosmatology skincare line is made just this way, in small batches in our very own lab in Monroe, Connecticut.

  4. Small businesses are more likely to offer environmentally friendly products and use sustainable practices in their businesses than large corporations. Our small business runs on solar energy! The packaging on our Mint Your Feet and Bright Balm Under Eye balms are compostable and biodegradable!

  5. Do you think about the environmental and societal impact before making purchases? Our Kosmatology team members and customers do! Conscious consumption is a movement prompted by climate change. As conscious consumers, we promote fair trade, value high quality products (think Made Safe Certified), and create less waste.

We believe shopping small is the best way to shop this Saturday, November 25th… and every other day of the year! Will you be Shopping Small this holiday season? Let us know.
